Peace March, Washington DC
I am headed back home today. I attended the peace March yesterday in Washington, DC. I was surprised at how many thousands turned out from all over the United States. We heard that Los Angeles also had a rather sizeable crowd for their march as well.
Jane Fonda turned up for this one in DC stating it was her first demonstration in 34 years. I am not a huge fan of Fonda and feel that we have been doing this a long time and she only showed up now because her career has taken a dump and she needs the exposure. She even brought her daughter with her. We gather a lot with CODEPINK and other activists but this particular march was very highly publicized and I guess Hanoi Jane felt the call to come, lol.
Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn were also among the celebrity speakers. They were also at the last two rallies I attended which included the Mother's Day march last year and the Fast For The Troops on July 4th of last year. So, I feel they were actually here for the cause and not seeking a spotlight.
The "Raging Grannies" sang a song they wrote yesterday and although none of it really was done too well, their message was loud and clear. They want the troops home now and they said Bush was full of "manure", lol. Well they got that right and I give them credit for their dedication to peace and the troops.
All in all, I feel good about having been here for this but will be so glad to get back home. My flight leaves in a few hours and I need to finish packing. Have a great day all!

I object to your reference to Jane Fonda. She admitted that she has stayed silent for so long because it might interefere with the cause. There are many who do not like her because of her previous anti-war views. Just give them a reason to spew hate and they will.
How old are you?
I am a big fan and admirer of Jane and her late father. Do you think she needs this kind of attention? It has nothing to do with her career. She certainly doesn't need money.
Can't you just be glad that she's a outspoken supporter?
Pixie, "how old am I?" How OLD are you. I am a mature adult with grown children and grandchildren and YES with her sagging career she did this for attention. We at CODEPINK have been marching for four years in Washington. Until other celebs began to join us, Hanoi Jane stayed out of it, And no one said she needed money, we do not get money to rally for peace and to get my son, daughter-in-law and ALL our troops home. Thanks for the comment but on my blog I am entitled to speak my mind the way I see fit. You don't have to agree with me, but I will still speak freely here.
Jane and the late Peter Fonda are great actors, this has NOTHING to do with that. I too am fans of them both as far as their movie careers go.
