I am headed back home today. I attended the peace March yesterday in Washington, DC. I was surprised at how many thousands turned out from all over the United States. We heard that Los Angeles also had a rather sizeable crowd for their march as well.
Jane Fonda turned up for this one in DC stating it was her first demonstration in 34 years. I am not a huge fan of Fonda and feel that we have been doing this a long time and she only showed up now because her career has taken a dump and she needs the exposure. She even brought her daughter with her. We gather a lot with CODEPINK and other activists but this particular march was very highly publicized and I guess Hanoi Jane felt the call to come, lol.
Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn were also among the celebrity speakers. They were also at the last two rallies I attended which included the Mother's Day march last year and the Fast For The Troops on July 4th of last year. So, I feel they were actually here for the cause and not seeking a spotlight.
The "Raging Grannies" sang a song they wrote yesterday and although none of it really was done too well, their message was loud and clear. They want the troops home now and they said Bush was full of "manure", lol. Well they got that right and I give them credit for their dedication to peace and the troops.
All in all, I feel good about having been here for this but will be so glad to get back home. My flight leaves in a few hours and I need to finish packing. Have a great day all!
